Yes Intel have ambition to make their Thunderbolt interface becoming generic in many computer. But, it seems those ambition are getting some obstacle.

Recently, Acer decide to drop Thunderbolt interface to any PC/laptop which their produce. The reason is, USB3.0 is logic alternative. It's low cost product with comparable data speed, and also well know interface.
This drop is bitter reality for Intel. Why? Acer is one of the biggest PC/laptop producer. Their get 4th level as the biggest for their market share.

Intel it self is still optimist about this. They don't want their interface becoming cheaper, and saying Thunderbolt it's kinda premium interface for PC/laptop
