Qualcomm Releases a Faster Screen Fingerprint Sensor Feature

In-display fingerprint sensors have become a major feature recently in various smartphone productions. However, this screen sensor when compared to the usual capacitive fingerprint sensor feels slower.

Qualcomm has recently hoped to change this. At the CES 2021 event, the company released its next-generation display fingerprint sensor, namely the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2.With this technology, Qualcomm claims 50% faster detection than its predecessor and also displays a 77% larger surface area, which means more. tolerance in terms of finger placement on the screen.

The larger surface area also means it can capture 1.7x more biometric data. In addition, the sensor itself is only 0.2mm in size allowing smartphone makers to maintain a sleek form in their products. Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2 is expected to come out on smartphones in early 2021.

Speculation is circulating that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 will be the first handset to take advantage of this feature.
