Facebook Access Blocked in Tajikistan

The Tajikistan government on Sunday requesting local internet server provider (ISP) to block access to several websites. The website was ordered to shut down because the websites were becoming a media to criticize the country President, Emomali Rakhmon. The lists of websites that have been blacklisted are facebook.com, zvezda.ru, tjknews.com, and maxala.org. previously, the authorities also have imprison more than 150 people from religious society in last two years on charges of extremism and attempting to rebel.


Tajikistan inhabitants about 7.5 thousand individuals and mainly moslem, is a former communist republic in central Asia, borders with region of Afghanistan and Chinese. In communist nations era, they were the poorest nations and Rakhmon has been a country president since 1992. This internet blocking is an attempt from Rakhmon for once again gain victory the president election in next November 2013. If he win, he will get seven years again to rule Tajikistan.
